PAVE Clinical Skills Assessment Examination

Effective May 31, 2013, the Clinical Skills Assessment Examination pathway option is not available to new PAVE candidates or to currently enrolled PAVE candidates who have not successfully completed the Qualifying Examination (QE).

Since March 2012, the AAVSB has used the American Veterinary Medical Association's (AVMA) Clinical Proficiency Examination (CPE) for eligible PAVE candidates. The CPE was developed and is used as the fourth and final step of the AVMA's ECFVG certification program. In 2012, the AVMA/AAVSB signed an agreement that allowed for short-term use of the CPE by PAVE candidates. The CPE use agreement expires in 2013. After the expiration of this agreement, the AAVSB will suspend offering a clinical skills examination for PAVE candidates.

Thus, potential new PAVE candidates and currently enrolled PAVE candidates who do not successfully complete the Qualifying Examination on or before May 31, 2013 will be required to complete PAVE certification through the Evaluated Clinical Experience.

For PAVE candidates who are currently enrolled in the PAVE program and are eligible for Step 4 or currently enrolled in the PAVE program and become eligible for Step 4 after passing the May 16, 2013 QE, please click here for more information on the Clinical Skills Assessment Examination option.
