The Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) is owned and administered by AAVSB. The examination is given twice each year, in January and June. The VTNE is constantly updated, reviewed, and re-evaluated item by item so that it remains a valid tool useful in the evaluation of candidates for licensure.

VTNE Initial Score Reporting

PLEASE NOTE: VTNE results are sent approximately 8 weeks after the test date. You and the Board of the jurisdiction in which you tested will receive the results. Results cannot be rushed or given over the phone.

If you wish to have your scores transferred to a state or province other than the one in which you took the test, please see the next section, "Transferring Your VTNE Scores."

If you do not receive your report within eight weeks after sitting for the VTNE, contact vettech@aavsb.org or the licensing board or administering agency where you registered to take the test if you did not register through AAVSB.

Transferring Your VTNE Scores

If you wish to have your scores transferred to a state or province other than the one in which you took the test, AAVSB can send an official score report of your VTNE scores to the jurisdiction you request, in the form they require. It is not necessary to transfer your scores to the state in which you took the exam.

All scores in your record will be transferred and the application can be completed electronically or downloaded to print. NOTE: If you registered for the VTNE through AAVSB, we must have your final transcripts in order to transfer your scores.

About the VTNE

The Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) is an examination used to evaluate entry-level veterinary technicians' competency to practice and to be licensed. Many jurisdictions require a passing score on the VTNE as one criterion for licensure. AAVSB contracts with the administering agencies to provide the exam for their use, and partner with the Professional Examination Service (PES) for examination development and administration services regarding the VTNE.
