James T. Penrod, CAE, FASLA, has announced his retirement as Chief Executive Officer of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) effective July 31, 2027.

“It has been a privilege to work alongside the AAVSB’s members, volunteers, and staff,” said Penrod. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together in support of veterinary regulation and public protection, and I am confident that the association’s future is bright.“

The Board of Directors is already planning for this leadership transition. Accordingly, a Search Committee has been appointed and will begin identifying the AAVSB’s next Chief Executive Officer. As we undertake this important work, the Board is committed to ensuring that the perspectives of Member Boards help inform the search committee in the development of the leadership profile for the AAVSB’s next CEO.

Jim will continue to serve as CEO through July 31, 2027, and will work closely with the Board and staff to support a smooth and successful transition.
